During the 1980's there were over 60 microstocks showing up every week at Pine Brook Speedway.

The American MicroStock Racing Association is the home of Microstock racing in New Jersey.  Microstocks are a fun, inexpensive way to feel the adrenaline rush of open-wheel racing without spending a fortune.

Microstocks are seperated into 2 official classes: Sportsman and Modified.

The Golden Years, 1979-1989

Founded in 1979 by Bobby and Billy Wagner, the American MicroStock Racing Association was formed as a low-cost alternative to the more expensive modifieds being run at the time.

Bobby designed and built the first Microstock body style, his #44 racer, modeled after Al Tasnady's 1937 Ford sedan. His brother Billy produced his #24 racer with the Gremlin body style, later made popular by John Kazmierski of K&K Industries.

AMSRAs' racing debut came at Pine Brook Speedway midway through the 1980 racing season with only 8 cars. Then in January 1981, AMSRA and the Microstocks held a demonstration at Atlantic City's Convention Hall. People fell in love with these affordable cars, and by 1982 the number of Microstocks grew to over 40.

AMSRA enjoyed a boom of growth and exploding fanbase at Pine Brook for 9 years, drawing record crowds and establishing kart racing as a formidable competitor to expsneive open-wheel modifieds. Some nights drew over 65 cars!

However in 1989, all that came screeching to a halt. The racetrack had been grandfathered under a extremely cheap lease which expired and was not renewed. Pine Brook Speedway was unexpectedly closed by its property landlords because they determined they could make more money developing on the [wet]land then if they let the track continue.

The restroom facilities were "accidentially" demolished by the landlords, and, because building on wetlands is complicated and expensive, Pine Brook was unable to reopen without them. The track closed. It sat unused for 14 years (the landlords weren't in much of a rush apprently) until it was completely demolished in 2003. A Home Depot has since been erected on the site.
